This is the first time that I'm sharing any details about my MS on this blog...but I was thinking that this is supposed to be a "snapshot" of our lives - things we love, people we remember, trips that were fun, friends, family...and sometimes our struggles. Those are the things that make our stories.
I have Optic Neuritis in my left eye. It is related to the MS, and in fact is the first symptom that many people will get prior to receiving an MS diagnosis. My occurrence happened 3 years after my initial diagnosis - so not so typical. So far I can say it's probably the worst episode I've had to date - I've been extremely lucky - pretty mild case so far - knock on wood =0-) Typically the neuritis will occur in only one eye - but has been known to occur in both on some occasions. This morning I started seeing "floaters" in my right eye. I describe floaters as what you might see when looking at an amoeba under a microscope. Just a simple little spot that floats around your line of vision and disappears as quickly as it came about. For me the floaters become more and more prevalent leading to tunnel vision - then to immense pain - then to extreme blurred vision. I always described it like someone smearing mud in your eye and you having to look through it. Colors are dull and grey and all shapes are distorted and blurry. I'm holding out hope that what happened today isn't the start of the disease making it's way into my other eye....I'm thinking positive thoughts!
